How can we afford to do this?

So the hottest question on everyone’s lips is, ‘how can you afford to do this?‘.

It’s a reasonable question. Lets look at our situation objectively:

  • We are not like the grey nomads who have worked their whole lives, collected savings and investment properties and are now sitting pretty and able to live without working. They have their superannuation paying out as well as the pension in most cases. We do not.
  • Neither of us are registered for Centrelink allowances or Government assistance of any kind.
  • We’re not living of any trust fund or inheritance, nor did we did not sell any big tickets items such as a house/car/business to afford this adventure, just the few possessions we owned.
  • We are not digital nomads, nor interested in complex location independent jobs that would see us tied to computers for 6-8 hours a day. We both like to work with our hands, we love customer service and want to be immersed in the communities we visit by being a part of the labour-force (be that paid of voluntary work). We will be impressed if one day this blog makes enough to cover the costs of registering the domain name and the hosting fees.

In short, we’re not rich.

This is long term adventure, not a holiday. We work for our lifestyle. We flip burgers, we make coffee, we pour wine, we make beds, we clean toilets, we work at reception, drive busses, use our skillsets to make the lives of others around us more comfortable, happier or easier and earn some coin along the way, or just make our own travels cheaper.

So read on to find out exactly, how we can afford to do this.
